Detroit by Design - 2011 Symposium is a three part Symposium and exhibition at the Detroit Public Library Main Branch, hosted by the American Institute of Architects (Detroit) Urban Priorities Committee, and sponsored by the AIA National, located in Washington, D.C.[1]

AIA Detroit is presenting design proposals for each Symposium component (Transportation, Urban Centers, and Urban Agriculture) that can positively impact, bring awareness, or further encourage unique conditions for the City to further explore.[2] Current submissions have selected student work, design professional submissions, and case studies from professional firms located throughout the world. Final submissions are part of a greater panel and community discussion, relating specific conditions to greater regional and worldwide design elements.

Detroit by Design has generated interest through competitions websites ,[3],[4][5] as well as coverage in daily blogs[6][7]Detroit Business Journals[8][9], and the Detroit Regional Chamber[10].
