Livingston Huaxia Chinese School

The Livingston Huaxia Chinese School was established in September 2002. Many Chinese professionals were attracted to the town of Livingston for its beautiful neighborhood, easy commute, and excellent public school system. Livingston Huaxia has improved diversity in the town through its tremendous efforts in teaching the Chinese language, promoting Chinese culture, and integrating with the local community. Since its inception, Livingston Huaxia has developed a steadily growing faculty that cumulated years of experience in teaching pedagogy. Its administrative team diligently carries out the strategies and plans of the school, and wholeheartedly supports students, faculty, and parents. As one of the largest Huaxia schools with a student population skyrocketing from 200 to over 1,000, Livingston Huaxia now offers Saturday morning and afternoon classes encompassing Chinese, arts, sports, culture, and adult education. Such unparalleled growth owes its credit to the various school leaders, who, throughout the past 11 years, steadfastly implemented the objective of the school set forth in the bylaws: teaching Chinese language and spreading Chinese culture. In following this overarching aim, the school has carefully studied the characteristics of its student body, and realistically analyzed the benefit of knowing Chinese in student academic and career growth. It fully respects the diversified needs of the students and their parents and tries its best to provide a variety of teaching programs and classes, thus is able to attract an increasing number of students in its language and cultural classes. Our motto is "we don't turn away a student." In the meantime, Livingston Huaxia has developed a unique education system through enhancing school administration, providing teacher training, and unifying class content, progress, and exams. In our language class, Livingston Huaxia now offers regular Chinese and Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) in order to accommodate our students. The school teaches both "Standard Chinese" and "Ma Li Ping Chinese", and recently opened a "Reading and Conversation" class to address different student needs. Our effort in spreading the Chinese culture, coupled with the popularity of Chinese in the mainstream American society, resulted in our growing number of CSL classes. Various cultural classes satisfy the needs of students and parents of all ages. The School and its PTA frequently organize seminars, parties, and competitions to enrich the lives of parents and students. Parent clubs provide opportunities for fun exchange and network. The Livingston Huaxia not only becomes a bridge for the local community to learn Chinese language and culture, but also provides a platform of interaction between the Chinese in Livingston and nearby towns. It is not an overstatement to say that the School has become a beacon of light for the Chinese in the region.
