Okakarara, eastern turn on the notorious B1 road (Namibia) from Okahandja just 30km approaching Otjiwarongo and 79km from the t-junction turn off on the road leading to the historic fabulous Waterberg National Park and Kaondeka yeriyara mountain.Hosting four Rural villages dominated by Herero people, most if not all to say as farmers. The previously dusty town is now making headlines with its Anually Okakarara Trade Fair since its humble inception early 2007. Okakarara is famous for cattle rearing and crop farming is considered less important, a situation that is compelling the Okakarara Trade Fair Society to put more emphasis on crop production to compliment the industry.
The Logic
editThe aim of the Okakarara Trade Fair is to change the lives in the constituency through industrialized, knowledge-based societies that bonds government, academia, local communities industry by bringing all these players under one roof and therefore enhancing existing business opportunities for local enterpeneurs by strenghtening established economic activities. Further it also intends to assist businesses in providing better marketing opportunities for their services and products.
What to Expect
editActual activities schedule for Okakarara Trade Fair includes among all such as a beauty contest, live music bands and commercial top breeders contesting and auctioneering and etc. The entrance fee throughout the week per day range from a fixed N$20 car, N$20 adult and N$10 child on condition you stay indoors because you re-pay per frequency exit and re-entering. A fundraising is held before the event to lobby funds from government, private companies and agencies to enable the society organize a bigger and better trade fair, as there lacks direct funding from anywhere. Tickets are priced from single, couple to corporate for a table followed by pledges during the galla diner.
Good Governance
editThe Ministry of Trade and Industry is also a major role player as they have come up with an initiative to spark an interest by sponsoring participating Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).Finally, Okakarara town is positioning itself by inviting further investment proposal in heavy and light industries, property development, and the development of a modern Central Business District (CBD) to be inaugurated thus 2012 at trade fair, state of the art horse racing track, a camping site and cultural village and small agricultural commonage.
