I additionally want to make some changes to the page to just organize in chronological order some facts that are out of order. in addition to switching the format of the way dates are being translated.

History

Prior to the colonization by the Spaniards, El Callao was inhabited by the natives Incas. "El Callao" has no exact date of foundation.[1] There is very little reference to the history of the city. In 1537 the first "tambo" was established by Diego Ruiz.[1] "EL Tambo" is considered to be a small rural store [2] Before the colonist, there were the Inca natives already living there. During the Viceroyalty El Callao was called "El Puerto de Lima" (Lima's Port) [1]

Making this the first recorded event.[1]

Notable Events

This is the first date of reference in the history of callao. In 1556 the first municipal authority was established by naming Cristobal Garzon the sheriff of the port.[1]

Only 200 out of the 5000 inhabitants of Callo survived the tsunami-Earthquake. The Viceroy Jose Antonio Manso de Velasco started the construction of the "Real Felipe" fortress which was competed 26 years later.[1]

In 1794 the first nautical school was established.[1]

On December 5th, 1860 the first firefighter company is established, named " La Union Chalaca N°1"[1]

On October 8th, 1879 Admiral Miguel Grau launches to face the Chilean armada at the Pacific War.[1]

Railway

The first railway in South America between 1850-1851 was from Lima-Callao.The two first locomotives were imported from England and named "Callao" and " Lima" [1]


El Callao has an emblem that was established in 1953. [1] The emblem is composed of a tower, a quiet ocean and the sun. Which represents a free Callao, freedom of the people and the enemy's surrender. [1]
