The Repatriation Of the Herero and Nama Skulls from Germany
Introduction
On the 4th October 2011 twenty Herero and Nama skulls arrived at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek Namibia from Germany. These skulls are from the Herero and Nama ancestors that were killed during the 1904-1908 Genocide and taken to Germany for racial tests and research and experiments.
A delegate of 60 Namibians went to Germany to start the reparation and repatriation of the ancestral skulls of Namibians. Thousands of Namibians of Herero and Nama descent flocked to the Airport to welcome back the delegation together with the skulls.
From the airport the skulls lay in wake at The Parliamnet gardens where Namibians of all walks of live were free to view the remains. On Wednesday 5th October , a memorial service was held at Heroes Acre where after the remains ar to be placed in the National Museun.
