The town of Luderitz

edit

The famous trading base camp called Shark Isalnd is situated in Luderitz. It was found by Adolf Luderitz..[1]Indeed the name says it all, that it is an island situated on the coast of Luderitz. This is where thhe local inhabitants traded the diamonds that they had for for other western products.During the early 90s the German troups started using the island as a concentration camp.Prisoners of war were captured and treated brutaly. These people were mostly people from the Nama and Herero tribe that were captured..[2]They were ill treated. Most of the people that were captured died.Even today the site of many graves are visible. Last year the prisoners of war that died at shark island were commemorated. This island is not only a historical site, but it is a tourist attraction as well. Many tourists go to this place to go look at the seals and falmingos. It is home to a considerable amount of these species.Guesthouses have been built, for the luxery of tourist if they want to go sight seeing and enjoy the history of the island. It looks like the municpality of Luderitz is abandoning this historical site because they are turning the place in to a lot of camping sites, which I do not agree with. At the end of the day the place becomes littered with all kinds of rubbish, which is a sign of disrespect because it is the shedding of those prisoners blood that were captured that we know can enjoy a free independence, in our country.
