Introduction

The Chlorodrepanis stejnegeri is also known as the Kaua'i 'Amakihi or even Hemignathus kauaiensis.

General Appearance

The Kaua'i 'Amakihi has a short beak with an almost olive-colored plumage and has black markings 'round the eyes^[1]. The females are a bit duller color-wise. Like it's namesake, this bird is native to Kaua'i and is known as a honeycreeper also. They weigh only 0.59 oz. when fully grown. ^[1]

Habitat

In Kaua'i, the Chlorodrepanis stejnegeri lives in the warm forests that are in the mountains^[1]. Their feet are well made for this sort of living since their feet have big claws ^[2]to hold on, its like a goat or a human climbing with gear. The claws are built in gear for the bird! Its called evolution, where an organism gains certain features that help it thrive in their environment.

Diet

They eat a lot of bugs^[2] and to get those little crawlers, they use their specially shaped beak! It may not look weird like a cockatoo or bright like a toucan's but rest assured, their beak is special! With its curved and narrow shape^[1], they can reach tight spots and munch up all those little bugs. It's like when you use a finger almost that searches for a penny in a wallet.
