Summary
editThe match was played under moderate rain in October 2010. The red team's manager for the day was teacher Dean Searley, who included himself as substitute goalkeeper; his opposite number, Joseph McCabe, played himself in goal. The match would last 40 minutes, with an interval after the first twenty.
The first period, underway at 1:35pm, started brightly for the whites, the 'away' side, as an unidentified defender slotted home their first goal in the third minute. Having gained an early footing in the match, the whites added to their tally through attacking midfielder Joshua Blanksby on 6 and 11 minutes, Blanksby's first coming after a mistake by home goalkeeper Daniel Karmy. The whites continued to dominate, and after captain Daniel Smees scored in the fourteenth minute, it was they who held a commanding 4–0 lead at the half-time interval.
They could not retain such control of the match in the second half, however; Gary Cranmer, playing in midfield for the reds, headed in his first goal in the twenty-first minute and followed it with another some fifty seconds later. Smees scored his second on twenty-six minutes to restore the gap to three goals at 2–5, but home striker Liam Rookyard reduced the deficit to 4–5, registering two of his own at the beginning of the final period.
With seven minutes remaining, the whites struggled to hold on to their lead, and in the thirty-seventh the reds' fightback was complete, tall centre-forward Joshua Cains nodding home their fifth goal.
A nervous final few seconds followed, but neither team could clinch victory before referee Matthew Connor-Bodenham blew his whistle at 2:15pm, and the match finished in a 5–5 draw.
