Career

edit

Born in 1985, Owens first played competitive snooker in 2005, entering two PIOS events. He lost 0–4 to Jamie Jones and came within a deciding frame of beating Craig Steadman, but lost to the latter 3–4.

Owens next played in the Pontin's series during the 2007/2008 season, recording two last-64 finishes and reaching the last 32 at one tournament. In Events 4 and 6 he lost 2–4 to Sydney Wilson and 3–4 to Robbie Williams respectively, while his run to the last 32 at Event 8 was ended by a 3–4 defeat to Michael Wild.

Having won £280 in prize money that season, Owens had no success the following year. He entered the 2011 Warsaw Classic, losing 0–4 to Wiktor Doberschutz, and the 2013 Rotterdam Open, where he beat Jeroen van Driel 4–1 to reach the last 128. There, he was drawn against professional Mark Joyce but, having recovered a three-frame deficit to draw level at 3–3, lost the seventh frame, and the match 3–4.

At Event 1 of Q School in 2014, Owens enjoyed good form, defeating Marc Davis 4–2, Ashley Hugill 4–1 and Adam Bobat 4–3 to reach the last 16. Requiring only two more wins to earn a place on the professional main tour, he scored forty-five points in a 0–4 loss to Tian Pengfei to exit the tournament.

The following season, invited to participate in several ranking events, Owens played in the 2014 Wuxi Classic, the International Championship, the China Open and the World Championship; however, he lost each of his opening matches, 2–5 to Williams, 1–6 to David Gilbert, 0–5 to Matthew Stevens and 4–10 to Graeme Dott respectively. He recorded his first win of the season at Q School, beating Davis 4–0, but was eliminated 1–4 by Phil O'Kane in the second round.
