Career

edit

Born in 1997, Sargeant first played competitive snooker at the age of fifteen, entering four of the PTC events during the 2012/2013 season. He lost all four of his opening matches, to Andrew Milliard, Oliver Brown, Eden Sharav and Duane Jones respectively.

The following season, Sargeant played in two European Tour events and Q-School; he did not qualify for the minor-ranking tournaments but reached the last 32 at Q-School's Event 1, where he beat two opponents before losing 0–4 to Jones. Requiring a run to the quarter-finals and a victory in his quarter-final match to secure professional status, he was beaten in the last 64 at his next attempt, 4–1 by Michael Leslie.

For the 2014/2015 season, Sargeant was invited to participate in qualifying for three ranking events - the 2014 Australian Open, the International Championship and the 2015 World Championship. He lost 2–5 to Joel Walker in the Australian Open, but recorded the highest break of his career, a 111, in his match against Yu Delu at the International Championship. Yu beat him 6–3, but he qualified for the minor-ranking Bulgarian Open - where he lost 2–4 to Graeme Dott - and the Ruhr Open, where Oliver Lines defeated him by the same scoreline.

At the World Championship, Sargeant was drawn against Fraser Patrick; the match, typical of Patrick's style, was a relatively low-scoring affair, with only one break above fifty being made, but he won it 10–3.

At Q-School in 2015, Sargeant again reached the last 32 at the first event, but was defeated 3–4 by Shachar Ruberg of Israel.

During the 2015/2016 season, he lost 2–5 to Sean O'Sullivan in qualifying for the Australian Open, but recorded a last-16 finish at the World Under-21 Championship, where he progressed from his group and beat two more opponents, before losing 4–5 to Jamie Rhys Clarke.
