Early Life edit

Marquis Antoine Lewis was born on September 5, 1991 in Long Beach, California to two African-American parents, Charmane, a former Personal Trainer and Bodybuilder and Decarlous Lewis, who works at Gulfstream Aerospace as a plane inspector. A year and a couple months after, Charmane gave birth to another child, born on December 31, 1992, named Daydrian Marcelle Lewis.

Not Really a Talent, but it's Literally the Only Thing He Can Hang On To: Track & Field edit

When Marquis was younger, he was a bit chubby. He hated running in P.E. at Alondra Elementry School (K-8).[1]. Although, a few years later, he enjoyed running and racing against other people. This is what he said:

"I like to race against people because it gets me more motivated to run faster and harder and yes... I am very competitive."

Later on, Marquis went to go out for Track and Field at Vista Murrieta High School in January 2007. He practiced with the team for the entire season and did not compete, due to poor grades. However, he got faster during the season and off-season. He ran 2 miles every other day between late September and mid-way December. His mother, Charmane, told him about her past experiences when she was in high school and college running Track. Getting more focused into school, Marquis also trained more during off-season at the Track and home. The 2008 Track season started on February 28, 2008 with the opening of Vista Murrieta's first opponent, Norco High School. On March 1, 2008, he goes to his first track invitational, Saddle-Up Invitational. Racing with the varsity sprinters in the 100m and 200m , Marquis was nervous but a bit relieved after the first race against Norco. He even felt more relieved when he beat his varsity teammate, Bradley Randle, son of Lenny Randle, in the 200m (took 3rd place) and when he, surprisingly, beat all eight varsity competitors in the 100 (took 1st place), earning the first place victory. Marquis goes to his second invitational in Moreno Valley, California on March 8, 2008. There, he encounters some unusual events that he has never heard of. He was scheduled to run the 4x200 meter relay (2 laps), 8x200 meter relay (4 laps/mile) and the 8x100 meter relay (2 laps).
