World Bank Global Development Finance

The World Bank Global Development Finance (GDF) database provides more than 200 debt and financial flows indicators that report public and publicly-guaranteed debt to the World Bank Debtor Reporting System, covering 136 countries (for a full list, please click here).

Methodology and scope

edit

The World Bank GDF database was set up in 1970 and it has been updated annually since then[1]. The topics covered in the database are, amongst others, external debt stocks and flows, major economic aggregates, key debt ratios, average terms of new commitments, currency composition of long-term debt, debt restructuring and scheduled debt service projections[2] .

The database is updated annually with datasets available from 1970s and projections for the next five years. The GDF data is released online in the month of January and is then updated in April.

Accessing the data

edit

The Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) International provides the macro-economic datasets free of charge for members of UK higher and further education institutions. In order to access the data, users have to be registered which can be done here. Alternatively, the data is available to download on the World Bank GDF website which requires a subscription.
