Early life and career[edit source | edit]

edit

Andien studied singing since the age of three. While in 3rd grade, Andien began attending various festivals in her neighborhood: Cilandak, South Jakarta. In 6th grade, Andien entered Elfa Music Studio (EMS), under the leader, Elfa Secioria.[clarification needed]

Andien was one of the younger generations of Indonesian female jazz singers. Since her childhood, she has had an interest in the genre of jazz. She has won numerous singing competitions since the age of 14 in Indonesia and Shanghai; she released her first album at the age of 15, with the album, Bisikan Hati, which was produced by Elfa Seciori.

After the sudden popularity of Indonesian music at the time, she later returned to work together with Indra Lesmana and Aksan Sjuman through the album Kinanti in 2002. Until then, Andien cooperated with Tohpati for the album Gemintang in 2005. Until now, she has released four albums and has been awarded five Anugerah Musik Indonesia awards (AMI), four Indonesia Video Awards, and one Anugerah Planet Muzik in Singapore. Over the years, she has collaborated with various musicians, such as Jeff Lorber at the Java Jazz Festival (JJF) in 2005, the Japanese ensemble vocal, Jammin Zeb (JJF 2008), Bob James (ASEAN Jazz Festival 2008 Batam Indonesia), and Frank Griffith (JJF 2010). She has also collaborated with the Indonesian jazz piano legend, Bubi Chen (JJF 2010) and pioneer of Indonesian progressive rock band, Discus (JJF 2006).

Andien always makes an album based on the phase of life she is in. She grew up during the realm of Indonesian music, and listeners have liked to see her development and journey over time. As a young jazz singer, she has since proven many things by collaborating with senior musicians from Indonesia and abroad. And loyalty to the color of the music that made her always consistent to date.

In mid-2010, Andien came back to launch her album entitled Kirana. Taken from one of the songs on the album title, "Kirana", in Sanskrit means light or rays. So long through the process of making and contemplation, Andien consider this album as a reflection of heart and mind. Hope every chiming melody and her speech word could be a ray for the listeners of country music.

On this album, Kirana, unlike in previous albums, Andien chose to work with two of her friends, Nikita Dompas and Rifka Rachman. Andien assumed they are the right people behind the scenes workship of this album, because in addition to being talented, they have tremendous musical taste, and have also been Andien's friends since childhood, so they really know Andien's character. It was also the first time Andien was actually directly involved in the production of an album, from the thought process, writing the songs, until mixing. And because it Andien also ventured to explore many musical and singing abilities, she became acquainted with a wide range of knowledge about music from this process: Jazzy and mature. The album, Kirana, is a very personal album; played from every corner of the heart and meaning.

The album, Kirana, talks a lot about love in different circumstances and was inspired by the people closest to Andien. There are 10 songs that will be in line that will tell the story. Three of them are old song remake, namely "Bimbi" (The Rollies), "Doubt" (Edwin Saladin), and "Gemilang" (Krakatoa). Here, Andien bring the songs are very fresh and character. Seven other songs also coloring and gives us inspiration and taste so in: "Pulang", "Salahku", "Kusadari", "Kirana", "Moving On", "Cerita Kita", and "Cinta". Andien has pioneered the first album in February 2000, entitled Bisikan Hati, the album was expected to sell about 30,000 copies.
