Dr. Yigal Kipnis is an Israeli historian and researches the settlement geography and political history of Israel. Kipnis completed a BS in Civil Engineering from the Technion in Haifa and an MA and PhD in Land of Israel Studies from the University of Haifa. He has taught at the University of Haifa. Kipnis served as a pilot in the Israel Air Force for 31 years, 26 of those in the IAF reserves. Since 1978 Kipnis has been a farmer, a member of Moshav Ma'ale Gamla and a resident of the Golan Heights.

His books:

  • The Mountain that was as a Monster: The Golan Between Syria and Israel. Magnes Press – The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2009.
  • The Golan Heights: Political History, Settlement and Geography since 1949 (Routledge 2013).
  • 1973: The Road to War in Hebrew, was published at the end of 2012. In this book Kipnis, for the first time and on the basis of updated documentation, revealed the political conduct which led to war in the Middle East in October 1973.
  • The English version of 1973: The Road to War (edited and introduced by Bill Quandt), was published at 2013, in the U.S.
