Nitish V. Thakor (born 1952) is a American biomedical engineering and is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University, a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a Professor of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University. Thakor is a leading researcher in Neuroengineering, a sub-discipline of Biomedical Engineering. He is also the director of the Singapore Institute for Neurotechnology (SINAPSE)at the National University of Singapore .

Nitish V. Thakor joined the Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering department in 1983 and has pioneered many technologies for brain monitoring to prosthetic arms and neuroprosthesis. He has authored more than 360 refereed journal papers (H Index 66; I-10 Index 313) and more than 20 patents. Dr. Thakor was selected by the National University of Singapore to found the Neurotechnology Institute named SINAPSE.
Dr. Thakor is currently the Editor in Chief of Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing, and was the Editor in Chief of IEEE TNSRE from 2005-2011. Prof. Thakor is a recipient of a Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health and a Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, Founding Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and Fellow of International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering.
Dr. Thakor is a recipient of many awards. Dr. Thakor is a recipient of the award of Technical Excellence in Neuroengineering from IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. Dr. Thakor has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India, and a Centennial Medal from the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering. Dr. Thakor has received the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society’s Career Award and has been made a Life Fellow in 2017.
Dr. Thakor is a Fellow of IEEE, Biomedical Engineering Society, American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, and International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering.
