A British computer scientist, my work in Theoretical Computer Science focusses mainly on hypercomputation theory,[1] but I have also published academic work in macroeconomic forecasting,[2] concurrency theory,[3] software testing,[4] and the theory of X-machines.[5] Since January 2009, I have held a Senior Lectureship in Computer Science at Sheffield University, and have served on both the management committee of BCS-FACS, and the Computer Science committee of the London Mathematical Society. I am Principal Investigator on the EPSRC-funded Hypercomputation Research Network,[6] and am associated with the IET/UKCRC Grand Challenge in Computing Research, Journeys in Non-Classical Computation.[7][8] I have coordinated various international workshops, and have been a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Unconventional Computing since 2009.

My current research is heavily influenced by the work of the Algebraic Logic Group at the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics in Hungary (especially Hajnal Andréka, István Németi, and their colleagues). I am also involved in joint work with Marian Gheorghe on computational aspects of P systems.
