{{UserboxCOI|1=Ron Silver (Chef)}} edit

Ron Silver (born September 6, 1962) is a New York City-based chef and restaurateur. Silver founded the American comfort food restaurant Bubby’s in Tribeca in 1990 and has since expanded to two locations in Manhattan and six more in Japan.[1]

Silver is the co-author of two cookbooks: Bubby’s Homemade Pies,[2] written with Jen Bervin in 2007, and Bubby’s Brunch Cookbook,[3] written with Rosemary Black in 2009.

Background edit

Silver was born in Salt Lake City, where he lived until moving to Atlanta in 1983 for work in the Buckhead Life restaurant group. Silver moved to New York City in 1987 to cook at an event at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. He worked as a catering chef and other odd cooking jobs until 1990 when he founded Bubby’s.[4] Silver has since become an established New York City chef, restaurateur and entrepreneur.[5]

Silver is married to wife Melissa and has four children.[6]

Culinary edit

In 1990 Silver founded a pie company in New York City for wholesale customers including Balducci's and Dean & DeLuca.[4]

Later that year, he staged a Thanksgiving pie pop up at the corners of Hudson and Moore Streets in Tribeca.[7] This evolved into the full-fledged restaurant Bubby’s, which is still well known in New York City for pies[8] as well as pancakes and other brunch fare.[9] Bubby’s has since gained a reputation for celebrity sightings as well as a cult status among some New York City foodies.[10]

In the summer of 2019 Bubby’s Tribeca underwent a renovation to expand and modernize the original 1990 back-of-house. The restaurant reopened in October 2019 with an expanded kitchen and bar area.[11]
