About Me

edit

My name is Michael Hawkins and currently live in the Philadelphia, PA area. I am in the field of Information Technology and currently work for the Federal Government in the area of Application Development and Data Management.

History

edit

I graduated from Minisink Valley High School in 2000 and promptly entered into the US Army that same year. I was a 31B Military Police Officer. My assignments included Okinawa, Japan and West Point, NY. I achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) and was even nationally recognized for my leadership and management abilities in 2004 & 2005, being a Regional Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year and Distinguished Honor Graduate from the US Army Primary Leadership Academy (Now called the Warrior Leader Course). While serving, I studied the principles and practices of leadership and management through US Army Academies, Courses and College studies. I have performed everything from the duties of a DARE Officer, Police Supervisor, Squad Leader and Unit Information Technology Officer to Investigator, Police Patrol Supervisor, Court Liaison Officer and more. I served 18 months in an Honor Guard Unit, where I was selected to perform Presidential and VIP escort details, full Military honors funerals, Professional sporting opening ceremonies, United Nations Color Guard details and the like.

Information Technology

edit

The field of IT has long been a passion of mine. Since first learning the in-depth workings of my family's first computer running Windows 3.1 at the age of 11 through my current position, I enjoy many aspects of the profession. I am particulary interested in the integration of IT systems into business organizations, Wireless Networking applications and the Unix and Linux operating systems. I have also dabbled in web development since the age of 16 and am fluent in (X)HTML, XML, JAVA, PHP, CSS, SQL and others.

Education

edit

I am currently completing my Bachelors of Science in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Excelsior College in hopes of attending the Drexel University MBA in MIS program in the coming year or two.

Hopes and Dreams

edit

Ultimately, I am looking for a position that will allow me to showcase my interdisciplinary abilities in Leadership, Business and Information Technology. As I climb the ranks towards this, I am eager to learn every aspect of those subjects as is humanly possible. Eventually, I would like to be a Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a corporation or hospital.

As a sideline to that, should the opportunity present itself, I have often entertained the idea of going into business for myself as well.
