Most Successful TV Programs in the World edit

Despite the crisis in 2009 television viewing has increased in most countries in the world and broke new records, with sport programs attracting the biggest audiences. Beside that, the most successful formats all around the world were series, events and shows. Specifically long running international formats such as the reality show “Strictly Come Dancing”, "Got Talent" or the "Eurovision Song Contest" appear in the Top 10's of many countries, but also local programs like the traditional Swedish “Donald Duck and his friends” or the Portugues documentary “Maddie – a verdade mentira” have reached top ratings.[1] In terms of total audience reach, the most popular gameshows in the world in 2009 were: (1.) Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, (2.) Deal or No Deal, (3.) Wipeout, (4.) Wheel of Fortune, (5.) Family Feud, (6.) Don't Forget The Lyrics, (7.) Hole in the Wall, (8.) Are you smarter than a fith grader?, (9.) Jeopardy! and (10.) I Love My Country.[2]

International TV Format Trading edit

In the period of 2006 to 2008, 445 TV formats have been traded internationally, with the UK television market leading in terms of the number of exported formats, followed by the USA, the Netherlands, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Australia, France, Japan, Italy, Denmark, Canada and Norway. The total production volume generated by traded formats has grown from €6.4bn (2002–2004) to approximately €9.3bn (2006 – 2008). The Top 10 of the most successfully exported formats (2006-2008) were: (1.) 1 vs. 100, (2.) America's Got Talent, (3.) Are you smarter than a fifth grader?, (4.) Big Brother, (5.) Cash Cab, (6.) Deal or No Deal, (7.) Family Feud, (8.) Hole in the Wall, (9.) Pop Idol and (10.) Power of 10. [3]
