Club History
editThe club was started back in the early 80’s The location of the meetings changed many times over the years and the earliest location I can remember is once a month at St Clair Collage The meeting then comprised of a main monthly demo or topic after which followed the disk of the month talk, this disk could be purchased from a very large hand made well crafted wooden suit case like box which contained the clubs library mostly on 51/4 inch disks. The Club still has this box I am not sure why but we do. After that the members broke up into smaller groups we called SIG’s (special interest groups) example one for Lotus 123,Windows ,Dos, Word Perfect and so on there they concentrated more on that groups topic. The club had a monthly newsletter called the TXT. Back in the early days of the club the biggest thing to come along was the start up of local BBS‘s. You could connect your computer and your 300 or 1200 baud modem to someone in the local area and chat, down load or up load programs and not have to make a long distance phone call. Back then the internet for public use as was not available to the home users.
