Pandit Rajkumar Misra is a renowned tabla maestro, arguably one of the leading tabla players of his generation and a guru par excellence.

He was born in Kolkota on <date> to renowned Tabla guru Pandit Ramgopalji and Kathak guru Susmita Misraji.

Early Life:

In a family where music and dance is a way of life, Rajkumar's training began at the age of five under his father.

A worthy heir to the heritage of the Jaipur gharana, enriched by Pandit Chunnilalji (his great grandfather), Pandit Jailal Misraji(his grandfather) and Pandit Ramgopal Misraji (his father and a tabla maestro), Pandit Rajkumar Misra, earned a reputation that breaks geographical and cultural barriers.

The talented youngster was already making his mark in the concert-circuit of Calcutta in his teens, when his father passed away. Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh, the doyen of tabla in Bengal - who had learnt the Jaipur style from Rajkumar's grandfather, assumed responsibility for Rajkumar's advanced training.

Rajkumar's mother, revered Guru Susmita Misra, Kathak guided him intensively in the subtle nuances of dance accompaniment.

Career & Concerts:

Pandit Rajkumar Misra has participated in scores of concerts across the globe along with other musical luminaries of this generation.

The premier music and dance festivals of India featured Rajkumar accompanying celebrities including Pandit V.G. Jog, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee, Ustad Shahid Pervez and Pandit Durgalal.

International recognition followed his concert-tours in UK, Germany, Sweden, France, Italy and Ireland.

The Government of India invited Rajkumar and his illustrious sister, danseuse Kajal Misra to represent their country in Russia at the “festival of India” in 1987-88.

Pandit Rajkumar Misra is currently the resident tabla Guru at the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, London, helping scores of aspiring students to master the art of Tabla. The UK Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan was the first independent overseas branch and it is also the largest institute for Indian art and culture outside India.

Recognition:

Pandit Rajkumar Misra has secured several awards and recognitions during his career.

In May 2005 Rajkumar Misra played for the Queen at Buckingham palace. He has also received fellowship from Trinity College.

Pandit Rajkumar Misra is married to Chandrima Mishra, a Hindustani vocalist and teacher.

Pandit Misra's daughter Saberi, the youngest member of Jaipur Gharana family tree, is an upcoming Kathak dancer and a talented tabla player and hindustani vocalist.
