Childhood Memories of Mayo

edit

I remember as a child, queuing for the Saturday morning pictures outside the Cinema in Spencer Street in Castlebar. It used to cost 6d in old money to get in and there was invariably cartoons followed by a Western or an adventure story. It was usually chaos there with kids running about, shouting and screaming and generally creating mayhem. There was one usherette in particular who we used to persecute -we nicknamed her Big Bessie or four eyed Bessie because she wore glasses.
