Agate Introduction

AGATE IMG 4478

Agate and jasper are types of "chalcedony."
Agate is translucent to semitransparent,
whereas Jasper is opaque. The primary
difference between jasper and agate is
the amount of impurities and foreign
material contained in a specimen of
cryptocrystalline quartz ( assemblage
of 'rapid' coalescence (cooling) of
4500°F (2500°C) SiO2 plasma )
