"The Rose That Grew From Concrete" was a poem written by rapper, actor, write Tupac Shakur in whatever year. It was also the title of a collection of 100 poems he wrote before becoming famous.


Meaning

The poem describes a rose growing out of the concrete and unexpectedly thriving.


Interpretation

The poem makes use of many poetic devices, such as personification, to illustrate the strength of the metaphorical "rose" to overcome obstacles, much the way Tupac overcame obstacles in his own life.[1] It is widely seen as an inspirational tale of making something of yourself despite low expectations.[2]
