Selin Montero Encarnacion (born January 12th, 1962), also known as Selin Montero, is a Dominican musician, singer, songwriter. He is best known for being the author of the song titled De Niña A Mujer, interpreted by Juan Manuel La Voz Del Amor, which was nominated for then known as Premios Casandra, now known as Soberano Awards. Selin is also known for some big hits of his repertoire, which include La Costura, Mi Muñequita, and A Esa No La Olvido Yo, the ladder which was made by Marino Perez.
Early Life
editMontero was born in El Cercado, province of San Juan De La Maguana, Dominican Republic on January 12th, 1962. His parents were Ancesto "Hipolito" Sanchez Terrero and Primitiva Montero Encarnación, but he was raised by his grandparents Jaime Montero Encarnacion and Carolina Encarnacion D' Oleo. From a young age, Selin felt a big inclination to music, since his father was a fabricator of guitars and was a musician. Selin learned to play guitar by the time he was 13 and was taught by his father who played tres. In the year 1982, while performing an event in San Juan De La Maguana, a well known artist from the 70s, Amado Rodriguez heard Selin singing. Amado reached out to Selin, his parents, and informed them that Selin has to go to Santo Domingo if he wants to prosper in the genre. Amado brought Selin to the capital and Selin stayed with an aunt.
Music Career
editIn 1984, Selin met Orlando Jimenez "El Pacha", when Orlando was performing a party event. He offered Selin to sing a song and as a result, enjoyed the way he sang. Eventually convincing Selin to come to Radio Guarachita to meet Radhames Aracena. On September 6th, 1984, Selin would record his first 45 disco, titled La Costura on the A side and Te Pago Con Desprecios on the B side. La Costura was head to head with Las Estrellas Brillarán by Ramón Torres El Poeta as the most requested song all the way through the end of 1985. Selin would proceed to record a song he heard from Marino Perez titled A Esa No La Olvido Yo and the song was a massive hit all across the Dominican Republic. Selin would proceed to record a total of 10 songs with Radhames Aracena at Zuni Records from 1984 to 1989, with the last one being La Mujer Que Tanto Quiero in 1989. Selin joined the Dominican National Army on November 1st, 1991 and formed part of the music band on the Dominican National Army. In 1993, Selin would record his first album titled El Negrito Del Swing. Due to a lack of funds and promotion, only one song Caminos Con Espinas was promoted from the album. In 2001, Selin would record and release his second album titled La Bebe Leche, which had little success. In the year 2005 Selin would release a newer version of the song A Esa No La Olvido Yo. It wasn't until 2019 that Selin finally had some success with the release of the compilation album Mirame A Los Ojos, with the same song as the title being requested throughout the southern part of the Dominican Republic. In 2023, Selin released his 5th album La Costura, which was a compilation of songs from El Negrito Del Swing, and songs Selin recorded from La Guarachita (Zuni Records).
Personal Life
editMontero is married to Sonia Cabral de Montero and is a father of three daughters, Rosabel, Anabel, and Rosibel and one son Oliver. Anabel is a police in the district of Santo Domingo and Oliver took his father's footsteps on joining the Dominican National Army in 2020.
