Amy Cunningham (born February 6, 1982 in Brampton, Ontario) is a Canadian folk singer and songwriter.

Biography

edit

Coming from a family of musicians, music has always been a large part of Cunningham’s life. Since the age of three Cunningham would sing along in key while her grandfather (whom used to play alongside famous artists including Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis) played guitar. Naturally, her early interests in music lead her to begin to writing, and play guitar at the age of fourteen.

Her love for music followed her to Brock University where she co-founded the band Rob and Amy. The band became well known on campus bars for playing original songs as well as covers, and went on to open for artists such as Jeremy Fisher, and Craig Cardiff.

Music Career

edit

Over the past few years Amy has been making music under the stage name Amy Cunningham. Her debut album To The Stars We’ll Return, produced by TransOrbital Productions was released on July 3rd, 2011, which she spent a year supporting, touring across Canada and even crossing the border to Nashville.

The album has strong influences in folk, soul, and country but it’s the strong and passionate vocals about social, environmental, and philosophical change embedded that makes the album stand out. The songs on the album reflect Amy’s personality as well as experiences in self-freedom, and human journey. They provide a window to her free-spirited and genuine outlook on life. “I am directing all my energy to this,” says Cunningham. “It is the amalgamation of everything I care about. It’s music, it is waking people up, it is exploring the self, and finding a way that will hopefully help people come together.”

Today, Cunningham is in the process of writing her sophomore album entitled Rest in San Francisco.
