THE NATIONAL SYMBOLS OF NAMIBIA

INTRODUCTION

Namibia is country situated at the south-south west of Africa. It gained its independence on the 21st of March 1990 after it was colonised by South Africa. After independence, Namibia worked its way up the ladder with bravery. Today Namibia is a good developing country with symbols that dignifies and defines all the Namibian people and the country Namibia at large. Namibia the land of the brave.


NAMIBIAN NATIONAL FLAG

The beautiful Namibian flag is a symbol of our struggle for unity. It symbolises peace, unity, life, energy,heroism and a common loyalty to Namibia [1]

  • The sun symbolises life and energy. The colour gold represents warmth and the colour of our plains and the Namib Desert.
  • Blue symbolises the Namibian sky, the Atlantic Ocean, our marine resources and the importance of rain and water.
  • Red represents the Namibian people, their heroism and their determination to build a future of equal opportunity for all.
  • White refers to peace and unity.
  • Green symbolises Namibia's vegetation and agricultural resources.


NATIONAL COAT OF ARMS

[2] This is the official emblem of the Government Service as a statute body. The Coat of Arms is therefore depicted on official stationery used by public servants. The Coat of Arms represents Namibia at large and its people.


NATIONAL ANTHEM

The national anthem was composed and written by Axali Doeseb. its name is NAMIBIA LAND OF THE BRAVE. The anthem represents of long history of Namibia and its people. It describes their will to survive amid all the hardships, tripulations, trails and most importantly, their undying love for their country and their nation. It is constant reminder to never forget the past, but to strive with courage and boldness for national unity.[3]

PRESIDENTS FLAG

The Flag of Namibia's president (Hifikepunye Pohamba) represents the supreme authority of the head of state and chief executive and is flown on the president's car. [4] The flag has three colours blue, gold and green. The gold is charged with the Coat of Arms.


NATIONAL SEAL

The National Seal is only used by the President to verify the authenticity of documents of state. [5] The National Seal bears the National motto "Unity, Liberty, Justice" twice. Once on a riband beneath the Coat of Arms and again circumscribed on the rim.
