My group and I did research on Educational Inequality in the United States. Throughout the research on this topic the article "Educational Inequality in the United States," states that "Unequal access to education in the United States results in unequal outcomes for students." [1] Within this article, the author states how education is important and what it can do for children throughout the United States. The article also talks about how academic success comes with how a child is raised and brought up. This includes school choice, wealth, parenting, and race or ethnicity. With these factors being involved in education I do not think it is fair to the children in the schooling process. Everyone should be able to get the same amount of education and good education. School choice varies on the area people may reside in. Wealth can be based off, of whether the parents pay for their children to go to a private school or even pay for them to go to school within a better area. Parenting styles include how the parents feel about education and how they were raised. Some may want a better schooling process for their children, while others think that the school in the area is the best way to do it. Race and ethnicity also plays a major role throughout this process as well. Personally, I think that if you are very religious it is better to go to a religious school of the parents choice in order to improve on that communication and learning process of the religion. My group and I also did research on three other websites. Those websites were, "The Power of Education to Fight Inequality," [2] "As America Becomes More Diverse," [3] "Educational inequality in the United States: Can we reverse the tide?" [4] Throughout these three articles it talks about how education throughout the United States of America is very diverse and what we can do to help change that. Throughout our country there are many opportunities but not all children get to experience those opportunities. Not all children have parents who are wealthy enough to give them the education they need throughout their growing times. Not all children live within the best areas either. I feel as though every child should get the same amount of education no matter the circumstances. I also feel like the United States of America, offers many options but not enough for the less fortunate. If every person went to school and got the same education, it would be more fair to those who are less fortunate. Same goes for college, not everybody can afford college. Not every person chooses to go to college either. Therefore, there are plenty of options for those who choose different paths. The inequality does in fact need to be worked on throughout the education processes though. For those who cannot afford extra schooling such as college, there are many government processes you can go through in order to access that extra education you may want to pursue. Throughout my schooling process I have been grateful to live in a good area and have access to a good school. I have also had the opportunity to go to college and pursue the education that I have always looked forward to pursuing. For many kids my age that choice is not available to them as soon as they graduate high school. Therefore, the education inequality needs to be worked on majorly throughout this country and it should be one of the main focuses throughout this time frame.
