I am a registered nurse and my day-to-day job is communication of cancer information to patients and their carers. I have worked mainly in oncology, haematology, a little intensive care and neurofibromatosis.
I would like to contribute to the cancer pages. The changes/additions I make will be to increase the accessibility of the topic information to non-scientific, non-medical lay readers.
In my time as a nurse I have come across incidences where patients are unaware they have cancer because other terminology is used, such as lymphoma, malignant - these are real examples. If the word 'cancer' is not used then, for some lay people, this is an opportunity for misunderstanding.
