I was born in Peru in 1996, I have recently moved to Washington in 2017. I had studied law in Peru for two years but now that I am in a new environment I am open to finding different careers that I may be interested in. I enjoy reading different kinds of content like: medicine, diseases, sci fic, novels and articles about new trends. One of my passions is art, I paint as much as I can as a way of relaxation. Art motivates me to travel to different cities and spend more time in nature to find new concepts that inspire me with my art projects.

I have employed Wikipedia all my life as a source of research. As a person that studied all her life in a different country with a different language (Spanish) I find myself very attracted to the idea that now I will be able to find more information as I research in English. The opportunity I now have incentivizes me to make my English better and to be part of the people who contribute to other communities by translating more information.

Article Critique

edit

The term Media conglomerate called my attention because of its controversy. Wikipedia needs to have an informative article about the term so that people can come to their own conclusions. When I visited the media conglomerate page on Wikipedia I found three aspects worth commenting on: the problems with its citations, weasel words and a poor structure.

Citations

edit

This article does not have reliable citations, the link for the terminology section does not have any pertinent information about the definition of media conglomerate. A few of the links do not exist and those that do are biased and ambiguous. Furthermore, the links do not come from primary sources of information which take trustworthiness from the article.

Weasel Words

edit

The words employed in this article show ambiguity and biased opinions. There are sentences that are not clear and give statements without facts. They use informal language to make things look a certain way, usually against media conglomerates. It could be beneficial for the article to include impartial words and relying on more concise information.

Structure

edit

We can see how the article starts by giving a small definition of media conglomerate but then is followed by a “terminology” section which does not give us a deeper meaning of the term, instead it mentions other facts that are not related to its terminology. The other section called “Examples by country” mainly talks about media conglomerates in the United States, on the last paragraph of the section they mention some other countries without giving examples of their media conglomerates. There is also a chart that needs to be more well organized, a paragraph explaining the chart would make readers understand it better.

Conclusion

edit

This article does not give much relevant information about media conglomerate, this is a very controversial subject and we can see that reflected in this article. We need to find better sources of information from where we can get facts and not opinions. The structure of the article lacks coherence, we need to organize the information better for a reader to have substantial understanding of the topic.
