Closing of Illegal Shebeens in Namibia

A few months ago Namibian citizens who owns Shebeens without licence were disapointed because the government wanted to close down the shebeens. The Namibian Citizens were not happy about this whole matter because most of them get their income from the sheebens, that is were they get their money to buy food, get money to pay for their children s school fees, that is were they get their money to pay their electricity and water. Police were forced to close down most of the illegal shebeens in Windhoek shebeens, and if the police finds any shebeen open with no licence than all the alchol, juke box and jackpot machine would be confiscated by the police. Some individuals were even arrested for operating without licence and some were given fine for operating without licence. [1] Futhermore after few days indiviuals were told n read in the newspapers that they can continue trading without licence but it was not confirmed because some individual were fined and arrested when they were found operating. [2]. some individuals even started threatening police officers through smses, because they were unhappy about the situation but Ndeitunga warned the individuals that the ones to be found guilty will be arrested and be dealt with in accordance of Namibian law. [3]. They even had a demonstration with the kids so they show that shebeens are were they get money to pay their children s school but the police were not interested, the demonstration was aborted when the Namibia Shebeen Association spoke to the Minister of safety and security, Nangolo Mbumba who told the Shebeen owners that they can continue with their operation but the Khomas police chief said that they will continue to arrest shebeen owners and they will continue to close down the shebeens unless the parliaments give them permission to stop doing so [4]. To conclude i dont think the minisrty or the police have reached a agreement to close the shebeens completely because i see that the shebeens are still operating even the ones that dont have licence.
