Dr Chandini Perera is a Sri Lankan plastic surgeon. She heads the Burns and Reconstructive Surgical Unit at the Colombo General Hospital.

Early Life

Born to a Budhist forest ranger and a Syriac Christian from Kerala, Chandini Perera traveled widely as a child in line with her father's work. She attended Visaka for her schooling, which provides a Christian and Budhist education. After completing her school, Perera worked as an airline hostess on Air Lanka until her mother put forward an application for her to attend the NCMC private medical college.[1]

Professional Career and Advocacy

Perera decided to go into plastic surgery as it was closest to both art and architecture.[1] She is one of only 6 plastic surgeons in Sri Lanka and specializes in reconstructive surgery to burns victims.[2] She is an advocate for victims burned during assaults or domestic violence, saying that these people can be ostracized, forcing them to live in an "unseen world".[2]

Dr Perera was one of the 2003 recipients of the Ganga Hospital Fellowship in Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery.[3]
