For the God, Tsar and Fatherland! (For the Faith, Tsar and Fatherland!) is a russian motto, common to the Russian Empire. It meant the main commandments that ought to have known Russian soldiers killed in war: their soul belongs to the God, their heart - to the people, their lives - to the Fatherland, bur theit honor - to nobody.. Also there is a short version of a motto, common to the cossacs — For the faith and loyality.

The first time motto appeared in the late 17th century. The author of it is unknow (sometimes authorship is attributed to the Yurievsky noble family), but it is believed that the real popularity it gained after the estabilishment of an army priests. In 1812 the motto was inducted into the "state militia sign of the Emperor Nicholas I of Russia»[1]. Heraldic motto was reflected in the 1882 Great State Emblem of Russian Empire[2].

Subsequently, the motto was used throughout, including black hundred and monarchist circles. Also there was a modified version of its proposed by the Minister of Education Sergey Uvarov - "Orthodoxy, Autocracy, Nationality".
