HISTORY

edit

He might appear innocuous at just 19, but Namibia’s fast-rising attacking midfielder Petrus Shitembi is one player that must be keenly watched by Super Eagles midfielders during his life of footbal, even with his young age shitembi has played bigger teams like U.J Esuene in Calabar Stadium, shitembi started of playing street soccer with a ball made of old plastic bag wrapped together bare foot and in gravel. Deadly on both legs, Shitembi was a major pin-up for his villege and still deadly for his country on fridays shitembi could go home very late just because of soccer but uptodate as the Brave warriors wrapped up their Germany-Tour with a 3-1 win over local side SV Herbern. The mercurial midfielder, who plies his trade for local club Rundu Chiefs, scored two goals before halftime to give the Namibians a comfortable lead into the break. One of a few African rising football stars, Shitembi is already a household name in Southern Africa and is being targeted by South African Premier League giants Orlando Pirates. He was recently stopped from attending trails with The Buccaneers by a groin injury that kept him out of training. The youngster has been described as "unbelievable" by South Africa legend and Kaizer Chiefs development coach Doctor Khumalo, who saw him in action in a local Namibian tournament in the year 2010. Fondly called the flair of Rundu, Shitembi progressed through all national junior levels and now playing in the senior national team in a space of four years, is what this young promising soccer player has achieved. Shitembi has over the last few years, proved that he has the potential of becoming Namibia’s top soccer player after showing some good performances with his club and the national team. He is regarded as the best player in the current Under 20 national side. Since the exit of mercurial Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, Nigeria has suffered from a dearth of attacking midfielders and Shitembi’s quality is what the Super Eagles will be lacking in Sunday’s clash.
