Concord Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200,000 college educated women.  This includes over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa),Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea.

History

The Concord Alumnae Chapter was  chartered on April 27, 1991 at Barber-Scotia College in the Kittie M. Sanson Chapel to service the Concord/Kannapolis area communities.   At  that time,  the chapter  co-sponsored an African-American Male Forum, contributed to the Barber-Scotia College Scholarship(Concord Alumnae Scholarship), United Negro College Fund(UNCF)  campaigns, conducted a Voter Registration Drive, hosted an Easter Egg Hunt, adopted a highway in Cabarrus County, and  held its  1st Jabberwock in May, 1992.

Concord Alumnae's Mission Statement

To provide quality programs to educate the youth, remain actively involved in the economic development of our communities, foster active participation in the political awareness of Cabarrus County in Concord,NC , advocate for more international involvement, and to provide events that will engage the community in physical and mental health programs.
