March 7th – The 1st and 2nd Maryland Regiments are organized.
March 27th – The 3rd, 4th and 6th Maryland Regiments are organized.

The German Battalion is authorized.

June

June 17th – The Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment is organized.^[1]
June 23rd – Maryland Convention asked Sir Robert Eden, 1st Baronet, of Maryland to leave as the last royal governor and sails on Fowey back to England.^[2]

July

July 4th - American Revolution: The United States Declaration of Independence, in which the United States officially declares independence from the British Empire, is approved by the Continental Congress and signed by its president, John Hancock, together with representatives from Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts Bay, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia.

August 2nd – American Revolution: A parchment copy of the Declaration of Independence is signed by 56 members of Congress (not all of whom had been present on July 4).^[3]
August 14th – The delegates of Maryland draft the Maryland Constitution of 1776.^[4]

September 6th – Montgomery County and Washington County are founded.^[5]
September 16th – The 7th Maryland Regiment is authorized.
