Guitar playing

edit

I've been around music my whole life. My mom and various other family members were in high school choir. My dad played guitar for many years. After he served our country in vietnam he continued playing bass in many different bands. Even though I spent my younger years not knowing my father my mom seemed to always keep a musical instrument around in attempts to coax me into seriously playing. It wasn't till 5th grade that I got serious and joined band. I, to my disappointment didn't get to play my favorite band instrument, the alto saxophone. Instead our band director Mr. Whitver made me pick up the trumpet. Being a stubborn 10 year old I didn't appreciate just how much dedication I would need to put into the instrument and, for lack of a better term, washed out. With this disappointment I strayed from music, Though I remained in choir. It wasn't till later on while working in my mom's friends store that my interest sparked once more. Sitting in one of the rooms was this ratty beat up acoustic guitar. I messed around with it and learned my first song, "come as you are" by Nirvana. I soon was given the acoustic for my helping around the store. however, as most guitarists do, yerned for an electric guitar. luckily I was able to trade my newly aquired acoustic for a "project" guitar. File:Http://a211.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/67/m 91cd5536f19b20711c344a2830112b5a.jpg A year after In the typical teenage need for popularity sold this guitar to purchase contact lenses in hopes of inproving my geeky appearence.

It wasn't till I started talking to a friend about started a band that my "need" for a guitar reappeared. In the beginning I was to be the vocalist. however, realizing there were no guitarists among our peers I bit the bullet, and BEGGED for a guitar. My first guitar I was serious about playing had finally arrived and I sat in my room playing it, well making noise. that day was also monumental as it was the day I discovered my mom had breast cancer. My playing became my outlet. I never really spoke to anyone about my feelings during that time. instead, I discovered the blues. I purely conveyed my feelings through my guitar.

Even after her passing on I still try to speak with my playing. For playing with no purpose is like talking for no reason, people will hear you, but it still has no purpose.

Other musical interest

edit

Being your sterotypical looking metal-head my other interests musically may surprise some. I've been in choir in 5th grade to now with a brief pause in 7th grade. I've earned my music Dept. letter from Prairie Central High School before transfering to Rantoul Township High School. At RTHS I have been in the concert Choir and advanced choir. Also performed as "Duke Doogie of Doon Douglas" for the 2006 Madrigal perfomance. I also enjoy musicals. surprisingly "The sound of music" is my favorite, though when we had to watch it freshman year I hated it with a passion. my other favorites include The rocky horror picture show, The forbidden zone, and nightmare before christmas. Simply put I try to be a well rounded individual.
