Mymou (often stylized as MYMOU) is a synth-pop artist and project of American multi-instrumentalist Jack Cleverly. Cleverly writes, records, produces and engineers all of the project's music. He is primarily known for his cover of Ceremony, which was written and recorded by New Order in January 1981, following the demise of Joy Division.
MYMOU's most recent EP, Sou1/Spiri7, was released in February 2019. Consisting of four tracks, the EP album explores deeper synth electronic sounds compared to his debut album, Time, yet share parallels with early 80's new-wave tracks.
History

MYMOU's origins and namesake stems from his late mother. As a child, his mother and father enforced and encouraged music, with him starting piano lessons at age 5. Simultaneously, in grade school, his father purchased a trumpet for him for his band class. Wanting to join his friends in the trumpet-brass section of band, his efforts were halted by his band teacher, in which he suggested to try trombone instead. After two years of trombone for school, his mother gave him a pair of drumsticks to play on pillows laid out on the floor in a drum-set like manner while playing along with songs. Noticing his natural sense of rhythm and beat, she purchased a drum-set for him, and he consequently underwent drum training and lessons. Whilst taking lessons for drums, his sister was receiving guitar lessons. He later instructed and taught himself guitar, and later, bass guitar through YouTube.
After graduating from the University of Miami in 2015, he moved to to San Francisco to be closer with his sister after the passing of their mother. The siblings had an idea to start a music project, called MYMOU, a spin-off of Maimou, which means "monkey" in Greek. Throughout their childhood, their mother would call them "maimou" but stylized the spelling as "mymou" in notes and texts.
2016-2020:
After his sister went abroad to study law, he moved to Denver, Colorado to work for a home-builder as an analyst. While working in Denver, he wrote, recorded and produced two albums, Time, which was a full-length album released in 2018, and Sou1/Spiri7, an EP released in February 2019.
