Wikipedia's Organic Soul

edit

With words we show people it's OK to add something imperfect because WP is not paper and imperfections will be corrected eventually, then with actions we show those same people that what we said was a lie. Imperfections are not corrected, they are obliterated. Contributions are not valued, they are discarded. The battle for WP's soul is not between WP:Inclusionists and WP:Deletionists, it is between WP:Evolutionists and WP:Geneticists.

The WP:Evolutionists are those who believe this encyclopedia has a core DNA and left to evolve mostly on its own it will grow into a mature entity. They are confident that it is OK for WP to be imperfect, blemished even. It is still growing and therefor cannot be perfect.

The WP:Geneticists are those who feel the core DNA is flawed and needs improvement. They are not so confident that this encyclopedia has the ability to mature unassisted. Blemishes and imperfections are a danger that must be eradicated so WP can grow up beautiful.

They are almost frightened that WP will fail without their constant interventions. They watch WP through a microscope and whenever a new cell appears they measure it to see if it is the right shape and size and color. If it fails to live up to their exacting standards they

They are not fools however. Like all organisms WP is vulnerable

Above all else, WP:Evolutionists are patient.

The creators of WP is their collective (tribal) child and like all parents they watch as it matures, helping it learn to crawl, then walk. They designed it well and gave it DNA hope someday to see this fledgling entity and They know that like all organisms

There has been an ongoing battle between the WP:Inclusionists and the WP:Deletionists. No one here would begin to deny that. Yet I have begun to see that we are not understanding the real issues of the battle.

WP is supposed to be encyclopedic - all encompassing -- and if it were not for destructive vandals and spammers much of the notability guidelines would be moot.
