Equity in the Workplace

edit

Equity in the workplace is defined as "...the concept of providing fair opportunities for all of your employees based on their individual needs."[1] This is in contrast to the concept of equality, wherein equal distribution of resources is the goal.

Learning and Development

edit

As equity can be seen as the driver of diversity and inclusion,[2] as a commitment to equity will naturally increase the number and types of people that can participate in the work environment, so too can learning and development lead the charge for DE&I as a whole.[3] Ways to do this that speak to equity's role in L&D are by providing mentorship programs, offering succession planning and leadership programs, and by creating opportunities for marginalized communities, such as Black, indigenous people of color (BIPOC), disabled peoples, and the LGBT community.[4]
