The Faces of Alexis

In November 2017, Nicollette Sheridan was cast in the role of Alexis. In February 2019, Sheridan exited, citing "personal family responsibilities."

Following Sheridan's exit, Elizabeth Gillies, who portrays Fallon Carrington, stepped into the role for three episodes during the second season.

In September 2016, it was announced that a reboot of the 1981 series was in-development at The CW. In August 2017, series co-creator and executive producer Sallie Patrick revealed that Alexis would be introduced during the first season. In November 2017, it was announced that Nicollette Sheridan had been cast in the role, following a phone call from The CW president Mark Pedowitz. Pedowitz noted his previous working relationship with Sheridan when she starred on Desperate Housewives on ABC, where he previously presided at ABC Studios. On her casting, Pedowitz stated: "I was big fan of Nicollette from way back when. She wanted it, and she will be great in it." Sheridan made her first appearance during final moments of the March 23, 2018, episode "Poor Little Rich Girl," in a recurring capacity. At the beginning of the second season, Sheridan began to appear in a regular capacity. On February 25, 2019, it was announced that Sheridan would exit the role, citing "some personal family responsibilities." In her own statement, Sheridan revealed she was leaving to spend more time with her terminally ill mother in Los Angeles. She made her exit during the March 22, 2019, episode "Motherly Overprotectiveness".

Following Sheridan's exit, it was announced that Elizabeth Gillies, who portrays Fallon Carrington, would take over the role for a story-dictated three-episode stint. Gilles' portrayal, facilitated by prosthetics, served as a temporary recast to give producers time to find a suitable replacement for Sheridan.
