editA justification of consanguineous intimacy
editi know it's weird to think that people in the same family could develop romantic feelings towards each other, but it happens, and i believe that this is fine as long as this does not pose a threat to the growth or health of our species. there are two reasons for why i personally don't have a problem with intrafamilial romantic relationships:
- it's nobody's business besides the participants, and
- i find no logical argument against such a relationship, provided that the partners do not produce biological children if they are blood-related to some degree. i think most people wouldn't be able to either, but still think it's wrong because we've been taught to frown upon incest.
our society's custom of forbidding such relationships is ancient and still exists only because those in power had to buy into all of our society's customs and traditions, however ridiculous, in order to secure the public's support and achieve power in the first place. even if they don't agree with said customs, revealing such a dissenting belief to the public would almost certainly mean their fall from power, and most of the people in power are too concerned with their own careers to worry about the ingrained systematic oppression caused by these customs.
i do think it's wrong to have children with someone of blood relation because such children are at greater risk for congenital disorders, which can make their life miserable. the responsibility of giving children a healthy and happy upbringing belongs to the parents, and this becomes difficult or impossible in the case of inbred children who are born unhealthy. if a consanguineous couple still wants to have children, they can still do so via adoption or gamete donation, which, if done correctly, will avoid the problem of genetics.
i understand that most of you are uncomfortable with accepting incest, however you define it. i really just want people to be more logical because living on the basis of logic instead of the whim of society would probably make everyone happier. cf. mindfulness
TL;DR
editi don't think it's weird or wrong to have a relationship with someone you're related to only by marriage, but i imagine that most people think differently because they've been hypnotized by our society's often illogical customs ***
