Western Avenue Studios
editHistory
editWestern Avenue Studios sits on the banks of the Pawtucket Canal.[1] Until the 1840s, the area was undeveloped. By the 1850s three things were identified on lots: Howard's Lumber Yard, the City Stables and the Lowell Manufacturing Company.[1] Maps in 1879 include a small Locks and Canals building.[1] The first building, the A Mill, was built by 1896.[1] The site next become the home of the Massachusetts Mohair Plush Company from about 1906 - 1950s.[1] It was next owned by a succession of companies including: Joan Fabrics, Collins and Aikman, and BPV Lowell LLC.[1] BPV Lowell LLC refurbished the various buildings of the mill to include artist studio space and offices.[1]
