Insight
editThe National Aerospace Laboratory of The Netherlands (NLR) has developed, a Human Factors assessment tool called Insight that assists the designer during the development process of a cockpit display. The tool supports the designer in choices related to Human Factors aspects of the design, and could be used during development of new cockpit display applications, or during modification of displays which have already been certified for use. It further supports short-cycle display improvement. Insight provides the designer with suggestions regarding:
- Legibility, readability, visibility of fonts, symbols and lines
- Contrast between text and background
- External disturbances
- Colour use
- Clutter

Methodology
editWhen designing a display (preferably in the VINCENT environment) the designer can at any moment consult Insight to obtain advice regarding HF aspects of the display prototype. After a number of iterations Insight will validate the prototype, after which it is ready for evaluation in desktop or simulator experiments.
