Wenzu Camileri also known as “ Caqsi “ is an 80-year old man from Kercem, Gozo who was involved in of the most horrific murder Malta has ever seen
Story has it that on Palm Sunday of 1897 Wenzu meets his 8-year-old nephew Ganni Curmi and suggests that they take a walk from their home in kercem to Rabat to gather some Palm leaves.
Ganni was a model child and a devouted altar-boy and hard-working. But his hard work also lays the groundwork for his downfall: the uncle who he used to help out around the house has promised to leave him his entire property, and this doesn’t go down too well with some of his envious relatives. Later on that day Ganni was found strangled and hanged in Wenzu a property in kercem which was also know as “Ta Caqsi “
Frangisku confesses to the murder of his young nephew .He also reported to have told the police that Ganni “looked so beautiful when he was dead”.
Camilleri died at the Mount Carmel Mental Hospital in 1978. He was 78 years old.
