Kusal K.DAS (b.1962) is working as a Professor of Physiology in BLDE University's Shri B.M.Patil Medical College, Bijapur, Karnataka, India. The major area of research carried out in Prof. Das’s laboratory is based on three heavy metals like nickel, chromium and lead. Currently Prof.Das’s laboratory is engaged in doing research on lead induced cellular hypoxia. The study is also carrying out to understand the heavy metal activated hypoxia inducible pathway and facilitate selection of cells with altered transcriptional activity of hypoxia inducible genes. He has also contributed chapters in three international specialized books on metals and has written two books on nickel toxicities. He is the first medical scientist to receive 'Dr.Raja Ramanna State Scientist Award-2013" by Karnataka State Council of Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka. He is also Visiting Professor (2014-2016)of University of Leeds,Leeds,UK and Member of Education Committee of International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS).
