Summary

edit

The episode begins with 2 children playing outside in the summer, with the sounds of cicadas in the background. A woman is watching them, although she is only seen for a very short time. The boys gaze towards Mount Fuji, and there are birds panicing in the distance. It is because on that day, the 10th of August of 2010 a.t.b, the Holy Britannian Empire declared war on Japan.

In their invasion, the Britanianns a new model of a weapon - the Knightmare Frames, which easily defeated the Japanese. Japan turned into territory of the Empire, and had it's freedom, rights and name taken: Japan is now Area 11, and the japanese are now Elevens.

While the voice-over explained, we are show photos of an attacked, ruined Japan. After it, we again see the boys, when one of them turns and declares to his friend, Suzaku, that he will destroy Britannia.

7 years later

edit

It is now 7 years later, 2017 a.t.b. in a Britannian suburb of Tokyo city.
During a chess game, we hear a news report of a terrorist bombing in Osaka. One side of the game is pressuring the older man, when two high school students enter the room. He then sneers at the substitute to be a high school student, who sneers back at him, calling him a noble. The student introduces himself as Lelouch Lamperouge, and he is positive that he could win an impossible game in 9 minutes - just in time for not being late for class. Lelouch begins his play from the king, and the noble begins to laugh.

After winning the game within the time limit, Lelouch and his friend, Rivalz, are exiting the building when the third prince Clovis publicly adresses the pepole in request to pray for those who were killed in the bombing. The pepole on the street stand still, when Lelouch and Rivalz are ignoring them and Clovis.

After the speech and prayer, Clovis recieves word of stolen cargo, diguised as medical equipment. Clovis immediatly sends out his forces, including the Knightmares.

On the road, Rivalz asks Lelouch why did he begin with the king. He answered that it's because that if the king didn't move, his subjects won't either. While in the middle of the conversation, Lelouch and Rivalz are nearly run over by a truck who quickly changes it's direction and crashes into a building. Pepole begin gathering around, talking bout it, and even taking pictures but none of them are actually trying to help. As Lelouch climbed on top of the truck, he heard a voice saying "I've found it. My... A moment afterwards, the truck's driver, Nagata, wakes up and begins driving - making Lelouch fall into the cargo. From outside the truck, military helicopters a shooting at the truck and warning them to stop. Lelouch then noticed that one of the two drivers, a female named Kallen, has also entered the cargo, so he hidden himself - watching her board her own Knighmare, and jump out of the cargo engaging in battle. After easily taking out a couple of helicopters, they recieve an order to retreat, that their commanding officer will fight instead. With Kallen fighting, another Knightmare appears and begins shooting at the truck, making it turn to another road. Kallen outmatched, she fires her Knightmare's arm and escapes. While the battle is raging outside, Lelouch calculates his next move and takes the terrorists' transmitter.

The military believes that the stolen cargo is poisonous gas, and sends soldiers, Honorary Britannians, to find it the truck, which is currently driving in an old subway corridor. With the driver, Nagata, bleeding, the truck is stuck in a big hole in the ground. A soldier notices the truck, whose cargo is now open, and attacks Lelouch, thinking he is one of the terrorists. After the quick confrontation, the soldier suddenly understand that he was fighting Lelouch, and takes off his mask to reveal he is actuclly Suzaku. As the two try to understand their condition, the capsule containing the gas opens, but it is not gas in the capsule, but a green-haired girl. Soon, another squad finds them and orders Suzaku to shoot Lelouch. Refusing to kill innocents, the officer shoots Suzaku in the back and orders the soldiers to "take the girl and kill the student", but before they manage anything Nagata activates the self destruct and blows up the truck.

After recieving the news, that 'it' escaped, he orders to destroy the Shinjuku ghetto, with the Knightmares and soldiers now running around the ghetto, killing and destroying everything in sight.

Underground, Lelouch blames the girl for all of it - the destruction of Shinjuku and Suzaku's death. While comming out of a tunnel into a warehouse to see the soldiers killing the Elevens, making Lelouch and the girl stop in their tracks and hide. Unfortunatly, Lelouch's cellphone begins ringing and they are found. The officer shoots, but the girl covered Lelouch, taking the bullet in the forehead. Lelouch, trying to understand that both the girl and Suzaku died infront of him and he couldn't do nothing, and now he is going to die the same way. The girl's hand suddenly grips his wrist and says that it seems that he has a reason to live, that he doesn't want to die here. She offers him a contract, she will give him power but he has to grant one of her wishes. That the power will make him different from other humans, and that the power of the king will isolate him. Lelouch agrees, and faces the soldier again. He orders them to kill themselves. He then realizes what happpened. In retrospect, he recalls that from that day on, he had been telling lies - lies about his name, lies about his background, nothing but lies. He’s sick of this world that doesn’t change, but he can’t give up the lies because of despair. However, he obtained power, so he begins smiling.
