Simon Bouvier (also known as Captain Moonscar because of a small moon shaped scar on his forehead) was a seventeenth century pirate notorious burglary, robbery, pillaging, and murder. He commanded the Octopus of Anger a 20 gun Bermuda sloop, notriously fitted with a figurehead of Medusa. His career lasted some 12 years before he was tracked down and killed in hand to hand combat by Captain Wilbur Cheetham of the Royal Navy.

Captain Moonscar was tracked to the small village of Thornton in Norfolk. He was said to be drinking at a hostelry called the Smugglers Inn, where Captain Cheetham cornered him and ran him through with a cutlass. As he lay dying he vowed vengance on the Cheethams and all their descendants. Captain Cheetham laughed at him, but a year to the day later screams were heard coming from his house, the nearby Dale Cottage. When the terrified villagers gathered enough courage to go into the cottage the following day they found him lying on the floor with fear in his dead dead eyes. Every year since then on the anniversary of his death it is said that Captain Moonscar stalks the village looking for descendants of Captain Cheetham to steal their souls and drag them to hell.
