Ingeborg Kastman was the daughter of the preacher in Hardeberga Gustaf Kastman och Maria, nee Hasselqvist. She worked as a teacher i Småland, before enrolling as a student nurse atSahlgrenska sjukhuset, where she qualified in 1926. Kastman worked as matron and nurse during her whole working life and was known as Sister Bojan. Between 1933 och 1945 she was also principal at Gothenburg's womens clinic on Övre Husargatan.[1]

During the 1930s the clinic was moved to the new maternity ward, Kastman took possession of and saved many older medical objects from an attic storage. Some were valuable, whilst others were just everyday objects. It is this collection that later became the basis of the Medical history museum in Gothenburg .[2]

For her efforts she was rewarded with Illis quorum and a medal of service to Gothenburg in 1954. (Göteborgs stads förtjänsttecken ). In 1968 Kastman was made honory doctor (medicine hedersdoktor) at Gothenburg University (Göteborgs universitet) together with amanuensen Inger Wikström-Haugen for their work with the museum.[1][3]

Syster Bojans Backe (Sister Bojans hill) a footpath in South Guldheden , Gothenburg is named for Kastman.[4]
