Showstopper American Dance Championships is a dance competition that hosts competitions in over 54 cities in the United States. The company was founded by Debbie Roberts. For the past 32 years, she has owned and directed Showstopper American Dance Championships, which has a 54-city regional tour as well as three national championship events each year. [1]

Showstopper American Dance Championships provides several categories for dancers to compete in including Hip-Hop, Musical Theater, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical Jazz, Song & Dance, Acrobatic Dance, Baton, Pom Pon, Clogging, Character Routine, Folkloric, Open, Contemporary, All Male, Production, and Teachers Categories. The company holds several regional events across the United States and three National Finals events at Myrtle Beach, SC, Galveston, TX, and Anaheim, CA. After 32 years in business, Showstopper American Dance Championships built a brand new, 40,000-sq.-ft facility in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Competition Format

In numerous city locations, dance studios compete in Regional competitions. This qualifies them to participate in the National Finals located in Myrtle Beach, SC, Galveston, TX, or Anaheim, CA.

Categories of Dance

Hip Hop

edit

Dance consisting primarily of Hip Hop Technique.

Musical Theater

edit

Dance featuring any style of dance interpreting a song from a Broadway show or movie musical.

Jazz

edit

Dance consists of primarily jazz technique.

Dance contains tap technique and primarily tap work.

Ballet

Dance consists of ballet technique, classical steps and movements.

Pointe

edit

Dance consists of pointe/toe technique.

Lyrical Jazz

Dance that demonstrates balance, extension, isolations and control utilizing the lyrics or mood of the music.

Song & Dance

Singing and any listed category of dancing.

Acrobatic Dance

A dance using controlled moves such as walkovers, limbers, handstands, chest rolls, gymnastic passes, acrobatic moves, and dance moves, steps, and choreography.

Baton

A dance using baton(s) and baton technique.

Pom Pon

edit

A dance incorporating the use of Pom Pons.

Clogging

edit

A dance utilizing either traditional or contemporary style clogging technique.

Character Routine

edit

A dance portraying a recognizable character throughout from a play, movie, television, Broadway, or a stereotype such as a farmer, policeman, etc.

Folkloric

A dance using ethnic style of dance, such as Spanish, Hawaiian, polkas, etc.

Open

Any listed category or combinations of listed category styles.

Contemporary

Dance utilize contemporary style to show extension, balance, can combine lyrical, modern and concert style techniques. Acrobatic tricks are allowed in this category.

All Male

edit

Any group with all male dancers, regardless of type of dance.

Production

A routine utilizing a group of at least 10 dancers incorporating any style/styles of dance or acrobatic. Production has a time limit of 8:00 minutes. Production Groups are not eligible to appear on the Championship Webcasts produced on the final day at the National Finals, however, All Production Groups at all National Finals are automatically part of "PRODUCTIONMANIA!®" live webcast show the evening before the Championship Webcast.

Teachers Categories

Persons 20 yrs. of age or over who are teachers or assistant teachers or professional dancers or persons who have ever been teachers, assistant teachers or professional dancers compete in Teachers Categories. Teachers Solos, Duet/Trio, and Groups compete in all types of dance listed above. All Duet/Trios or Groups with even one Teacher competitor enter the Teachers category. Teachers Groups are not eligible to appear on the Championships Webcasts produced at the National Finals.

$50 plus a $50 gift cerftificate to the soloist in the Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior age group receiving the highest overall score.

Top Duet/Trio

$50 plus a $50 gift cerftificate to the Duet/Trio in the Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior age group receiving the highest overall score.

Top Small Group

$100 plus a $100 gift cerftificate to the small group in the Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior age group receiving the highest overall score.

Top Large Group

$100 plus a $100 gift cerftificate to the large group in the Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior age group receiving the highest overall score.

Top Super Group

$100 plus a $100 gift cerftificate to the super group in the Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior age group receiving the highest overall score.
